MANILA, Philippines — Jason Angcajas was only 12 years old when his father brought him to a Traslación or the procession of the image of Jesus Nazareno.
Angcajas remembers that his father used to carry him on the shoulders to witness the event.

“Dati, si Papa, matagal na ring deboto. Nung nakita nya na may sakit ako, parang hinikayat nya na sumama ako,” Angcaas told INQUIRER.net.

Article continues after this advertisement“Iniiwan nya po ako sa isang lugar at ipupunas nya yung panyo. Ibabalik nya sa ’kin. Ipupunas nya sa’kin,” he said.

Angcajas recalled that he used to have an asthma but he eventually got better when he became a devotee of the Nazarene.

Nowadays, his father is no longer capable of attending the procession because the old man now has health complications.

“Yung pinupunas sa akin ni Papa, ngayon ay pinupunas ko po sa kanya para mawala rin yung nararamdaman niyang sakit,” the 26-year-old devotee said.
(What my father used to wipe on me, I am doing that to him now so he can recover from his illness.)
But oil prices fell as markets were unimpressed with a pledge by China’s finance minister to boost the world’s second-biggest economy.

He recalled the time when he got involved in a motorcycle accident in 2021.
“Pasasalamat ko po kay Amang kasi galos lang po ako pero yung motor ko sobra po, yuping-yupi talaga. Simula po nun, sabi ko talaga, di ako pinapabayaan ni Poong Nazareno,” he said.
(I thank the Jesus Nazareno because I only sustained bruises while my motorcycle was in total wreck. Ever since then, I told myself that the Nazareno never left my side.)
On Thursday this year, the Traslación began at 4:41 a.m.
The procession is expected to be participated by millions of Filipinos.

It is a retracing the route of the Nazarene image from Bagumbayan (Luneta) to Intramuros7up gaming, and then to Quiapo.
